Small boat insurance is another form of coverage to protect personal property just like insuring a car, home or personal possessions. There are many different forms of coverage depending on the particular model of boat you own and what you plan to use it for. Boat insurance can offer financial protection against your own mistakes or the mistakes of others.

Types of protection

Most insurance companies provide boat owners with policies that protect them against liability and damage to their boat. This means insurance will pay for replacement or repairs in the event of a collision, sinking, vandalism, acts of nature, and the actions of others that damage your boat. Items and/or fixtures that policies protect include the hull of a boat, sails, machinery or engine components, furniture, on-board equipment, and some types of on-board equipment that is not fixed. Some companies provide coverage for trailers if they are damaged by an external cause.

Optional protection

Most personal possessions that could be brought onto a boat are not covered by boat insurance. This includes items such as fishing equipment, GPS equipment, hunting equipment, and anything else that was not a part of the original machine. Optional coverage can be purchased at additional cost to protect these items.

Liability coverage

A typical boat policy can provide protection from liability that may be experienced by a boat owner. If a boat owner damages a dock, another owner’s boat, or causes bodily injury, liability insurance will provide coverage. Typical liability policies also cover non-crew members who are hired by an owner to work on a boat in the event that they are injured. Exceptions to this type of coverage are for employees of boat yards or docks who may be working on your boat. These individuals are covered by the Longshoreman’s and Harbor Workers compensation act.

Cost of coverage

The premium that an individual pays for a policy varies greatly based upon the type of vessel being insured, characteristics of the person buying the insurance and what the boat will be used for. For instance premiums will be higher for a 28 foot sail boat in comparison to a personal watercraft. Premiums will also be affected if you own your boat personally or as a corporation. The year of manufacture, the current value, whether or not it is financed, horsepower of the engine, top speed of the craft, whether or not it is used for racing, the location of overnight storage, and the body of water the craft is to be operated on must all be considered for the premium. There are no general estimates of what a person will pay for boat insurance just as there are no general estimates for any other type of small boat insurance coverage.

Although some people search for the phrase “freeway insurance” when looking for auto coverage, there is no specific policy that covers driving on freeways. All auto insurers cover the use of freeways. However, there is at least one car insurance company that does business under that moniker.

Whether or not you take a freeway to work can affect the cost you pay for your premiums, however. Insurers will ask you several questions and will consider several things when drafting a quote for your vehicle’s coverage. One of those things will certainly be the distance that you drive to work each day, and thus whether or not you must take a freeway can affect your final quote.

When looking for an insurer, make sure that you get as many quotes as you can. Most agents will give you a quote free. Have your VIN (vehicle identification number) on hand as well as all the other important data regarding your vehicle when you decide to look for a quote. You can get a quote online or you can call an agent directly and obtain one over the phone.

In addition to information on your vehicle, you should have information about your driving record and history. Make sure that you have your driver’s license number and those of any other drivers that will be regularly using the vehicle. As some companies offer a discount for drivers with children under the age of five, be sure that you also have the social security number of any qualifying children.

In addition to those factors, your rate will also be influenced by the amount of coverage that you choose to have. For instance, the lower the deductible that you pick, the higher your rate will be. You must also make decisions regarding your personal, property, and injury limits and coverage. Although state laws mandate the minimum amount of coverage, you can always elect to have more coverage.

If you are, indeed, interested in learning about the company by the name of freeway insurance, you can check out their website. They are located in most parts of California, and they have been in business for approximately 20 years. However, whether you are looking for them or another company, make sure that you get as many quotes as possible to ensure that you are getting the very best rate.

Commercial auto insurance is required by law no matter in what state the business is located. However, the exact minimal insurance requirements vary from state to state. A local business that owns one or more vehicles should purchase at least minimal insurance for each one. However, aside from the minimal insurance, there are other business auto insurance policies that are good to have. Uninsured and underinsured commercial auto insurance is always advisable. Comprehensive coverage is advisable is the vehicle is particularly valuable.

When taking out auto insurance for a company car, it is important to work with a well-known insurer. Nationwide and Geico are some well-known insurance companies, and there are others. Call a number of companies for a price quote, or get a free price quote online. Comparing prices is a good way to keep costs down. Surprisingly, there can often be vast price differences between insurers for the exact same insurance policy.

Make sure the auto insurance policy is tailored to the businesses’ needs. Insurance companies can be quite flexible and many of them are more than willing to help a company create a customized auto insurance policy. While most businesses would not need a custom-made commercial auto insurance policy, some do.

When taking out commercial auto insurance, be sure to read the contract and fine print carefully. If something is not specifically noted on the contract, it is not covered under the insurance policy. Be sure that any employee that may drive the vehicle is also listed. Failure to check into this detail can cost a business a lot of money and even provide grounds for a lawsuit.

Commercial insurance for business vehicles is required by law. However, a business owner should not limit him or herself to minimal insurance. It is advisable to consider all forms of commercial auto insurance and see what type of policy would be best for the business. Choose an insurance company that offers good prices and is a well-known, bona fide insurance agency. Also, be sure that the policy covers the vehicle or vehicles properly. A business owner that has purchased proper insurance for his or her vehicles can then rest at peace, knowing that if an unfortunate incident occurs, it is well covered.

Mountain biking is a fantastic sport. The excitement of the trails, wind going through your hair, never being sure of what is around that next bend. It is exhilarating to be sure, but also a bit on the dangerous side. There are the dangers of injury to yourself and damage to your bike. If you are serious about mountain biking you probably have purchased a nice bike with great tires and a sturdy frame. Sometimes though no matter what you do, something can happen to your bike. This is what mountain bike insurance is for. It can pay to repair your bike in the event of accidents and sometimes to replace your bike if it is stolen.

Typically, mountain bike insurance comes under different kinds of coverage. You can be covered while traveling, while in competitions, or just using your bike for day-to-day purposes. The basic cost for insurance should be roughly somewhere around 10% of what your bike is worth. If you are a very avid biker and enter many contests, this cost will likely be higher. Be sure to get medical coverage as well, a very useful thing as the sport is rife with injuries like bruises, scrapes, and in worse cases sprains and broken bones.

If you think your security is excellent and you always lock up your bike, you might wish not to have theft coverage on your policy. Bike thieves may be cagier than you believe. If you find your prized bike missing, do not say you were not warned. You may be able to get the cost of your insurance reduced if you have security measures like strong locks or always put your bike in a safe place like a garage.

Mountain bike insurance is a necessity for protecting your bike. Accidents can and will happen and if someone steals your bike odds are slim the police will recover it. So do yourself a favor and pay up for the cost of insuring your bike. It will be well worth it, especially if you spend a lot of time on this sport.

Temporary car insurance is a relatively new kid on the block. Previously, a motorist could only avail of a policy that insured his or her vehicle for a year or more. However, due to the increasing sophistication of the insurance market as well as the outbreak of different needs on the part of drivers, the short-term option has become increasingly popular.

There are many reasons why an interim coverage would be needed. One of these is to enhance an existing regular policy where the coverage is inadequate. Another is a total replacement or a radical departure from the conventional arrangement due to limited budget or unaffordable rates. For example, the individual just does not have the funds to pay for a whole year’s coverage.

Rather than risk going out on the road without any protection whatsoever, he or she settles for a monthly plan. While this might seem outrageous in anticipation of the costs involved, many companies now provide this flexible option such as Alliance, Geico, and State Farm. Depending on the individual’s driving record, credit worthiness and other factors, the premium due will vary although it is going to be comparatively higher than the standard one-year term. On average, it amounts to about $15 per day.

If the applicant needs coverage for a short period, such as a few days, weeks, or months, it does not make sense to cover oneself for an entire year. Just some actual examples are going on a road trip, test driving a car, or renting one. For driving parents, it would be advantageous to secure the shorter version for a son or daughter’s use.

This is a much better option than having the long-term policy revoked by adding another name. More importantly, in the event that an accident occurs on the part of one’s offspring, the impact on the parental policy will be neutral. Thus, in deciding whether to go long-term or temporary car insurance, it is important to not only consider the bottom-line but likewise the impact of the chosen alternative. Of course, the standard three-quote rule still applies and so does reading the fine print of the contract. Barring these, any type of vehicular insurance can become worthless as the much needed coverage could be totally missing.

Waverunner insurance or Jet Ski insurance is commonly, referred to as, a PWC or Personal Water Craft Policy. If you already have boat insurance, most insurance companies will allow you to add your PWC to your existing policy, however, if you do not have an active boat insurance policy — you will need to open a PWC policy to provide ample coverage for your watercraft.

PWC Policy: Coverage

A PWC insurance policy generally, covers watercraft owners in most liability situations, whether another person borrows the watercraft or whether the policyholder was operating the waverunner, at the time of the claim. Possible liability situations that are often, covered by a PWC insurance policy includes:

1. negligence of another operator while using your waverunner

2. medical costs and funeral expenses in the event of bodily injury or death of another person, as a result of your negligence

3. repair and replacement costs for damage to your personal valuables

4. repair and replacement costs for damage to another dock or another craft

5. fuel spill protection

6. towing costs for water skiers or wake boarders who were injured, as a result of your negligence

7. medical bills to cover injury to you, as a result of an uninsured watercraft operator;

8. repair costs for physical damage to the machinery, the equipment and the hull; and

9. towing costs, in the event that you break down in the water

PWC Policy: Limits

While a Personal Water Craft policy covers quite a bit, there are also many situations where, even under a PWC policy — your watercraft will not be covered. Waverunners that have been modified to enhance the craft’s performance and/or speed, the operation of a waverunner any time between dusk and dawn, and operating a wave runner without a valid driver’s license. If any of the above mentioned factors are present, most insurance companies will not cover a waverunner because the risk to the provider is higher than it would be in a normal situation.

PWC Policy: Discounts

PWC owners can save on their waverunner insurance by qualifying for various discounts through participating insurance providers such as, Nationwide, Progressive and GEICO. Some of these discounts include:

1. Boater Safety Course discount

2. Claim-Free Boater discount

3. Multiple Boat Coverage discount

4. Discount for Diesel Fuel Usage

5. Multi-Policy discounts- when your waverunner is insured through the same company or covers your home, health or auto insurance.

Non owner car insurance is liability coverage for people who do not own a car but who occasionally may drive a car belonging to someone else. The most common occasion when this type of insurance is needed is for car rentals.

Sometimes the coverage offered by the rental company can reach as high as about $30 per day. This rate may get too expensive for the driver if the car rental is for an entire week.

When an accident occurs while a non-owner is at the wheel, the damages caused by the accident are covered by the policy the car owner has. When the damages exceed the allowable amount that the owner’s policy covers, then the non-owner policy kicks in to take care of the remaining damages.

The non-owner policy does not take the place of an owner policy. It will not cover collision damages to the car the non-owner is driving or damages to a car that a non-owner policyholder buys after securing the non-owner policy. It will not protect others who drive the same car. The policy will not reimburse you for rental fees required after a non-owner damages a car. It can, however, cover personal injury and medical expenses after all other policies have been exhausted.

Not all insurance companies offer this type of coverage. Qualifying for it through companies that do offer it, though, will require that you have a valid driver’s license. Some companies may have limitations for new drivers or those who have had accidents while insured on another primary policy. If you are a homeowner and carry homeowner’s insurance, for example, it is possible to secure non owner insurance for a car through the same insurance company. In many of these cases, the insurance company gives discounts for adding the extra coverage to an existing home policy.

Premiums on a non owner policy can increase for some of the same reasons that they do on traditional policies. Traffic tickets and car accidents are the most common causes of rate hikes. Even in the event of premium increases, the policy is rarely as expensive as a regular policy held by a car owner to cover his car.

Every insurance policy is replete with definitions and restrictions as the insurer attempts to narrow the scope of its liability. A vehicle owner seeking classic truck insurance will encounter more fine print than normal.

The Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) defines classic cars as those being built between 1925 and 1948, being high priced when new and being made in limited numbers; Packards and Dusenbergs, for example, would be included. There is not a similar lodestone for classic trucks, although some organizations consider vehicles 15 to 25 years old to be “classic”.

Do not confuse “classic” with “antique”. State laws generally define “antique” as older than 35, sometimes 25, years and offer lower license fees for antique cars if the owner seeks that designation. However, the state anticipates that an “antique” vehicle will be driven sparingly, perhaps as little as 1,000 miles annually; this accounts for the lower license fees. Insurance companies make a similar presumption as to driven mileage and adjust premiums downward, sometimes as low as $300 annually. In this regard, classic vehicles may receive the same premium treatment as antiques from an insurance company, but the vehicle would also have similar mileage restrictions; this would preclude everyday use of a truck. Thus a truck owner may wonder if seeking specialized insurance is worthwhile, or if standard coverage is a better choice.

Large insurance companies may ultimately not offer the best coverage for a classic truck owner because their underwriting departments do not deal everyday with a classic vehicle. The policies they do offer would include wording referring to a “collector” or “classic” vehicle, would require a garage or other shelter and would limit the annual mileage. And if the insurance company suspects that facts have been fudged, cancellation is quite likely to follow when coverage is most needed.

A boutique agency offering insurance coverage for collector cars should be considered. The people who work that narrow focus deal daily with the nuances of the trade, are accustomed to a different set of replacement value parameters and are more likely to give personalized attention to the truck owner. There will need to be an agreed upon value for the truck, the premiums are likely to be higher than those of a large insurance company and the owner’s driving history will receive closer scrutiny. There may even be a site inspection to verify existence of a garage. However, classic truck insurance is the only proper approach to guarantee peace of mind for a truck owner who owns a significant piece of motor vehicle history.

Antique truck insurance is a requirement for operating or even owning an antique truck if you have the intention ofever driving it or showing it at antique car or truck shows. It is typically less expensive than standard insurance because standard insurance is meant for vehicles that will be logging thousands of miles per year, while insurance for an antique car or truck might only require coverage for a few hundred miles per year, or possibly even less.

This means that the insurance provider understands that because fewer miles will be driven, the risk is effectively reduced and so they are willing to pass along cost-savings in the form of lower monthly and yearly premiums.

Antique truck insurance can be relatively easy to obtain because of these reduced factors. Even though the trucks themselves have fewer safety features than modern-day vehicles, the insurance providers know that these kinds of antique trucks mean more to the owners (typically) and so they understand that greater care will typically be demonstrated when the owners drive them or transport them to shows.

In order to receive coverage on an antique vehicle, the vehicle in question must be at least 30 years old. Anything less than 30 years of age does not qualify as an antique car/truck.

However, even with this being the case with limited miles added to the vehicle each year, antique vehicle insurance may come at a steeper premium rate due to the fact that the truck itself may be exceedingly valuable. Because of the age of the vehicle and the condition as well (if it is in exceptional shape), the price of the insurance may increase. The more rare the truck, typically the more expensive is the insurance to cover it.

It is best to talk with a qualified insurance agent when considering any type of antique vehicle insurance needs. You will want to make sure to obtain adequate coverage so that in the event of an accident, the antique truck insurance policy you have selected with the help of your agent will be able to pay for any any all damages regardless of fault.

Actual Cash Value — This type of insurance for a houseboat is known as ACV and it pays the Actual Cash Value of your houseboat minus the assessed depreciation. This type of insurance is the cheapest insurance option for your houseboat.

Agreed Amount Value — This type of insurance policy sets the value of the houseboat at the start of the policy, which includes the combined value of the hull and everything attached to it. The most valuable advice for this type of policy is for the policyholder to identify AND document each piece of equipment that is on the boat, in order to have the most accurate value when you start the policy.

There are several different specifics you will need to consider, as far as insuring your houseboat:

Marine Survey Most insurance companies require houseboat owners to submit to an annual or at least, a regularly scheduled marine survey.

Navigation Limits — Houseboat owners will not be covered if they travel outside specific geographical limits. The reason for this is to the protect the insurance company’s investment, in the event that you travel to waters that are too dangerous for your houseboat.

Deductible — The deductible to insure a houseboat is very similar to an auto insurance deductible — the higher the deductible, the lower the premium. In general, a houseboat deductible is about one to two percent.

Discounts – Some providers, especially those in colder climates — offer “winter storage” discounts for policyholders who only stay on their houseboat for part of the year. Some companies offer a “fresh water use only” discount for houseboat owners. Houseboat owners who have passed a boating safety course are also eligible for an additional discount. In addition, policyholders with a clean driving record will get the cheapest insurance rates for their houseboat.

Live-Aboard Coverage — The primary difference between boat insurance and houseboat insurance is that you will need specific coverage to cover your additional cargo, equipment and supplies, along with the additional liability that comes with living on the boat.
