Temporary Auto Insurance Is Available

by on February 20, 2011

There are several instances where someone would want to obtain temporary auto insurance. This type of insurance allows you to insure an automobile for a shorter amount of time that should only be used for short terms, as it will usually be more expensive than a regular six-month or one-year policy.

If you have just purchased a vehicle and you have not had the opportunity to fully research which company you want to insure you, temporary auto insurance would be very beneficial to you. Most insurance companies will offer short-term coverage. Should you need to borrow someone’s car, you may want to consider getting your own insurance as they may have a clause in their policy stating that they are the only one insured while driving said vehicle. Renting a car for a vacation or business trip is one instance where you may want to obtain temporary insurance. The rental places do carry their own coverage but it does cost you extra that is added onto the rental price. Many times after you have been insured by one company you may want to shop around and see if you can get cheaper insurance through another company. If your current insurance is about to lapse you can obtain temporary until you decide on whether you are going to stay with your current company or move to a new one.

When people purchase a vehicle in a different state, country or province the vehicle needs to have temporary insurance to drive it from point A to point B unless they have arranged with an insurance company to have it covered beforehand.

Having a car that is only driven once in awhile or as a seasonal vehicle would have no need to be insured full time so therefore temporary insurance would be beneficial.

The cost of this type of insurance will depend on many things, which include where you live, how much insurance you want and need on your car, how long you need it and the insurance company you decide to obtain your temporary insurance from. Before you decide, make sure to call different companies and get quotes from them.
